The Firestorm Games Christmas Gift Guide
The Firestorm Games online store is packed with amazing gifts, not just for tabletop gamers, but also for kids, grownups, families and pretty much anyone that likes to have fun! Who doesn’t like fun?! There are toys, games, cards, miniatures, hobby supplies and more, but with so much on offer it can be hard to choose the best Christmas gift. This is especially true when you’re looking for something to give to a child or an incurable geek* – for both groups, the stuff we enjoy is often weirdly specific and completely incomprehensible to our friends and loved ones!
That’s why we’ve created this handy guide. If you’re stuck for ideas when it comes to a Christmas gift for the child or tabletop gamer in your life, we hope you’ll find the answer here. Let’s go!
Board Games
Let’s start with something that’s fairly universal – board games. It’s hard to go wrong with a good board game, and there’s something about them that just feels right for Christmas too.
We’ve put together a special selection of board games with a festive theme (or at least a winter theme), plus a huge choice of board games based on popular movies, TV shows and other pop culture franchises. We’ve got fantastic games based on Star Wars, Harry Potter, Marvel and lots more.
If you’re really unsure what to get and you want to play it safe, we’ve curated a range of family favourite board games including timeless classics like Scrabble and Draughts, as well as more modern crowd-pleasers like Dobble and Carcassonne.
Starter Sets
Maybe the person you’re buying for is into miniatures games, card games or tabletop roleplaying games, but you don’t know enough about the specific game they’re into to pick out a gift they’ll definitely like. If that’s the case, why not introduce them to something completely new?
If your friend or loved one is into Dungeons & Dragons, maybe they’d be interested in trying out a different roleplaying game like Call of Cthulhu? If they play Warhammer but also have an interest in history, maybe they’d appreciate being introduced to a World War II miniatures game like Flames of War? If they’re always playing Pokémon GO on their phone, perhaps they might like to dabble with the hugely popular Pokémon Trading Card Game? There are also multiple different Warhammer games, and most people who play one of them have often thought about dipping their toe into another, but have never quite gotten around to it.
Often these game systems have hundreds of products available, most of which are intended to be added to an existing collection. So, when introducing someone to these games for the very first time, it’s best to give them everything they need to get started, and that’s what makes a starter set the perfect Christmas gift – everything you need to start playing is right there in the box. No additional purchases necessary!
We’ve assembled a selection of fantastic starter sets that covers some of the most popular card games, tabletop roleplaying games and tabletop wargames (tabletop wargames are the ones that use miniature plastic soldiers!). We also have sections specifically for the various Warhammer starter sets and Pokémon TCG starter decks.
Stocking Fillers
If you’re looking for something smaller, we have stocking fillers too! For the kids, we have a choice of fun toys from the wholesome and traditional to the jazzy and modern – collectable character figures, bouncy things, slimy things. All the good stuff that kids love! A small Lego set will usually bring a smile to their little faces too.
For the ‘older kids’ (you know – those aged between 8 and 80!) we have a fun selection of board game and card game stocking fillers, plus sections for Warhammer, Pokémon and Star Wars.
Everything on our stocking fillers page is priced under £10.
When In Doubt… Just Give Dice!
Kids aside, unless the person you’re buying for exclusively plays card games then dice will always be a welcome gift. If you’re not a tabletop gamer then dice might seem on par with socks in terms of excitement level, but honestly us geeks love ‘em! Some people even collect dice in their own right! And if they’re especially pretty or unusual (the dice, not the collector… although maybe that too…), so much the better.
Pretty much every tabletop game uses dice, and most will use at least one ‘D6’, or six-sided dice (some, like Warhammer, use absolutely bucketloads), so you’re safest going for those. If your lucky dice recipient plays a tabletop roleplaying game like Dungeons & Dragons then they’ll also use D4, D8, D10, D12 and D20, which can be bought as a complete set.
Watch out for dice that have unusual symbols on them though, as these often indicate that the dice are intended to be used for a specific game, or represent a specific ‘faction’ or team within a particular game.
We have a large selection of exciting dice here! Or if you’re buying a gift for someone who plays Warhammer 40,000 or Age of Sigmar and you know which game/faction they play, we have dice just for them too.
The items featured in this guide have been specially selected as ideal Christmas gifts, but we’ve barely scratched the surface of the thousands of fantastic toys, games and collectables in our online store. We’re sure to have that perfect gift in here somewhere! Why not browse and see what else you can find?
*Full disclosure – this guide was written buy an incurable geek, so you can trust that these geeky gift recommendations will be solid!
